In the Weststeiermark the autochthonous variety Blauer Wildbacher is the source of the Schilcher, a wine that is a legend, and for many connoisseurs epitomises the character of the Styrians like no other. Because the rosé is as fresh as it is aromatic, as youthful as it is full of potential for maturing. And in recent years, the Weststeiermark winegrowers have made more & more sparkling wine from the Schilcher grape. Austria’s answer to Prosecco and Champagne!
In Südsteiermark Sauvignon Blanc, Welschriesling, Gelbe Muskateller and opulently vinified memners of the Pinot family are the most prominent. Morillon the Styrian synonym for Chardonnay, is quite famous and particularly fine.
In Vulkanland one encounters mostly Welschriesling, but also Traminer and Grauburgunder, which grow in the so-called varietal islands.
